Vanity and pride are two different things. Though these words are often used synonymously, a person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves…. And vanity, to what we would have others think of us.
A man with a strong pride coming from his selfishness is easily flattered. Flattery blinds him from reality and eventually, that leaves him in an artificial made-believed world of his own -- which will only become a mockery in the eyes of the people in the real world.
A proud man is always looking down on things and people… and of course, as long as he’s looking down, he can't see something that's above him (God).
It was pride that turned angels into devils. It is humility that makes men angels.
Temper gets you into trouble. Pride keeps you there. Forgiveness sets you free.
No one was ever choked to death by swallowing his pride.
Humility is the ability to give up your pride and still retain your dignity.
There is this paradox in pride -- it makes some men ridiculous, but prevents others from becoming so.
So to conclude,
Pride can make you or it can break you. Pride is noble and honourable when it is set alongside with humility, love and compassion. It becomes distasteful, disgraceful and shameless when arrogance, prejudice and selfishness have it their way.
